Who's Behind Blackcap Audio

PROFILEPIC.png

Hi - I'm Martyn White, the sound engineer behind Blackcap Audio. I received a BA (Hons) in Creative Music Technologies from the University of South Wales in 2019. The following year I received an MSc in Music Engineering & Production also from USW. For my final major project for the MSc, I researched the usage of binaural impulse responses to create and enhance spatial perception when listening through headphones. My work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels earned first class honours.

I have experience in recording, audio mixing, mastering, composing for film, podcast editing, and audio post production work including sound design and foley. Moreover, I am an Apple Certified audio professional in Logic Pro X 10.4 in addition to being proficient in Pro Tools and Ableton Live.

A perfectionist at heart, my lifelong love of music, keen ear, and high standards make me an ideal choice for any audio projects large or small.

Musician at Heart

Blackcap Audio isn't just about engineering. I also know that musicianship plays a key role in many projects - it's always preferable to know that the person turning on the red light from the other side of the glass is both a lifelong musician as well as an experienced audio engineer.

As a musician, I play guitar, drums and keyboard as well as composing and producing music electronically. I'm also a member of the band FORT in which I play guitar and produce, having recently mixed and mastered FORT's upcoming EP titled We'll Burn That Bridge When We Get to It.

A four piece post-rock band based in South Wales, Fort's blend of the delicate, cinematic and heavy has garnered the attention of the alternative music blogosphere such as NOIZZE, Six Eight Radio, BlaBla and more.

Why "Blackcap" Audio?

So why the name, Blackcap Audio?

The Blackcap is a species of bird found throughout Europe and the UK that is well known for its distinctive, musical song. According to the birdwatching website gardenbird.com, "the Blackcap is a renowned songster, famous for its warm, musical fluting notes." The male species has a black "cap," and it can be found singing all year here in South Wales.

So what better mascot for an audio company than a black hat wearing, musically talented travelling bird!
